Bambu Lab S1 3D Scanner: Everything We Know So Far
Share
Bambu Lab, the company behind the printers most of our customers use every day, is moving into 3D scanning. On 12 October 2026 it announced the Bambu Lab S1, its first 3D scanner, with a launch planned for November 2026.
Since then the rumours have been everywhere. Here is what Bambu Lab has actually confirmed, what is still unknown, and how to get the S1 in Lebanon.
What Bambu Lab Has Confirmed
- The name: Bambu Lab S1 3D Scanner, Bambu Lab's first 3D scanner.
- The design: a handheld scanner with a pistol grip. The teaser shows a square front window with several camera lenses, two controls below it and a thumbwheel on the grip.
- The promise: "Easy in Hand. Pro in Every Scan." Bambu Lab says the S1 pairs "the same ease of use you trust" with "pro-level scanning precision".
- The date: November 2026. Bambu Lab has not given a day yet.
- A first giveaway: three S1 scanners are prizes in Bambu Lab's MakerWorld "Make for Good" accessibility design contest, with the winners announced on 18 December 2026.
What the Certification Filing Shows
The S1 passed US FCC certification on 22 September 2026 as model DS001, filed by Shenzhen Tuozhu Technology, the company behind Bambu Lab. The filing lists 5 GHz Wi-Fi 6 and a 60 W power input (20 V, 3 A). It does not reveal the scanning technology, and the user manual and the photos stay confidential until March 2027.
Industry reports also link the S1 to SCANTECH, a Chinese maker of professional 3D scanners that signed an agreement with Shenzhen Tuozhu Technology in January 2026 to co-design consumer 3D scanners. Bambu Lab has not commented on the partnership.
What We Don't Know Yet
- The price
- The scanning technology (structured light, laser lines or infrared)
- Accuracy, resolution and scanning speed
- Whether it captures colour
- The software, and how scans get to Bambu Studio
- What comes in the box
You will find prices and full spec sheets for the S1 on other websites. None of them come from Bambu Lab, so we are not repeating them here. We will update this guide as soon as Bambu Lab publishes the real numbers.
Why a Bambu Lab Scanner Matters for Makers
A 3D scanner turns a real object into a 3D model you can edit and print. That is how you:
- Replace a broken part when no spare exists: scan it, fix the model, print a new one.
- Design something that fits an object you already own, like a mount, a holder or a case.
- Copy a shape that is hard to measure by hand, like a handle, a curved panel or a sculpture.
- Turn real objects into props, cosplay pieces and figures.
Until now, most scanners asked for patience and practice. In a statement to the press, Bambu Lab named unreliable wireless connections and a steep learning curve as the problems it wants the S1 to solve. If the S1 brings the plug-and-play feel of Bambu Lab printers to scanning, going from an object on your desk to a print on your plate could become an everyday workflow.
The S1 and the H3C Are Two Different Products
Bambu Lab is also revealing the H3C on 3 November 2026. The H3C is a tool changer 3D printer with nine tools, not a scanner. Read what we know about the H3C.
