eSUN PLA-LW (Lightweight PLA) is a specialty filament designed for applications where reduced weight is essential — especially in RC planes, drones, and cosplay props. Thanks to its foaming properties, it delivers strong, lightweight prints without compromising print quality or strength.
Printing Tips
Set the first-layer speed to 100% of the actual printing speed and turn off the "first layer / small area printing speed reduction" function. Keep the first-layer extrusion rate consistent with the actual foaming extrusion rate (e.g. at 270°C, set the first-layer extrusion rate to 45%). If bed adhesion is too strong, enable a bottom raft when printing.
Mind the printer's maximum operating temperature. Most PTFE-tube printers cannot run for long above 250°C — extended printing above this temperature can cause clogging. For temperatures above 250°C, use a high-temperature printer with an all-metal hotend.
Yellowing of printed parts after high-temperature foaming is normal. Lowering the print temperature will reduce it.
Because PLA-LW foams continuously inside the high-temperature melt chamber, retraction is largely ineffective and stringing is normal. For RC planes and large prints, use vase mode to minimise stringing.
Foaming ratio depends on temperature, print speed, and nozzle melt-chamber size. Compare to your model's designed wall thickness and tune extrusion rate, temperature, and speed for your specific setup.
